Day 2: Olhette to Sare to Ainhoa

We woke early on our mountain top to sunrise elderly french hikers- old men in long pants who seem wake around 4am to run up and down the steep and gigantic Pyrenees- passing us with smiles and bonjours as we pant and slowly climb our way to the top.  Our day began as they all seem to- with a steep 4 hour or so climb to the top of a mountain and then an equally long climb down the other side.  At the top of La Rhune we watched a small train slowly chug through the forest and up the rocky cliffs.  We descended with breathtaking views down steep  slopes of cobble and scree into the beautiful Basque village of Sare where we found gas for our campstove and ate our daily lunch of pain and saucisson over the jai alai court in the center of town. We continued into Ainhoa- an equally beautiful Basque village with stone white plaster houses and cobble streets.  There we ate our macaroni at a campsite and rested our feet with a Basque biere.
