Day 24 : Luchon to Fos

A very nicely graded, long climb up and over today. Nice scenery and we were back on the border again - border marker number 400. The decent was a little confussing as we dame upon a sign that advised us to take an alternate route down to Fos? This would have been fine since the sign looked pretty official with the FFRP lable on it, but the copywrite 2001 map showed this trail as a vista point only - not acctually going all the way to Fos? hummm? We went a little ways up and changed our minds, returning to the real trail which it seemed like no one takes anymore because we could barely find our way past the cabane. The way down, which our guide book advises against, was very slippery as it followed the oldest cobble road I have ever seen. If it had just rained, we would not have been so happy to be there, but carefully decending this ancient road into the ruins of an old village bellow was one of my favorite parts of the trip so far. Very cool, but the trouble finding the trail made for a long day to the camping municipal in Fos. We slept well and Fos had a good store for resupply and a nice little bakery (boulangerie) across the street that were both open  the following day - Sunday morning.
